Toolbars may contain any number of buttons for the application, and an application may have numerous toolbars.

The toolbars may be docked on the side of the applications window, hidden or left floating independently as shown here.

The user can also reshape them to suit their our needs by dragging the mouse on the toolbar frame.

Button sizes may be increased for easier use with high resolution monitors, and the actual images displayed can be customised to suit your needs, as well as a tooltip message that is displayed when the mouse cursor hovers over the button.

Tooltips appear when the cursor is stationary over a button, or other parts of the display window. They are usually yellow with a short description in describing the buttons use.

Status bars usually appear at the bottom of the main window frame. They are used to display help information about menu or toolbar commands in a similar way to the tooltips. The status bar may also be used to display other information such as status, progress, time, date, number of records displayed etc.

Buttons can be customised to accommodate a bitmap or icon to give the application a more graphical appearance.
