How to connect two PC's using the Windows

Direct Cable Connection Wizard.

Note that both PC's must use the same type of port.

i.e. Parallel to Parallel or Serial to Serial.

Connect the cable and Install the Host PC first.

Note the Host generally holds the Files to be accessed.

The Client is the PC you are going to use to access the host.

First make sure that you have installed the

Direct Cable Connection Software on both PC's.

You can do this by checking your start menu as follows :

  6. Click the Details button.

  7. Tick the Direct Cable Connection item.

  8. Click OK, then OK again to start the installation.

  9. If you are asked to re-start the PC - do so.

You should enable file sharing of at least one directory

on the Host PC, and the workgroup names of both should

be identical.

For details on how to check or change these see

Changing Workgroups or Sharing Files.

If the Direct Cable Connection is found then run the

program to make your connection as follows :

  1. Once the Wizard has opened select either the Host or Client.

  2. Click the Next button, to see a list of available connection ports.

  3. Select the port type that you are using.

  4. Click the Next button, the PC will try to contact the other PC or wait for a PC to contact it.

The Host PC will display a message saying

Waiting for a guest computer to connect..."

If all goes well the Client PC will log on to the Host

with a name and password and if it successfully connects.

You can open the shared folders by clicking the button

which appears below the close button.
