Changing the workgroup is generally a safe operation, that can be repeated whenever required.
To change the workgroup, open the Control Panel and double click on the Network Icon. The network properties box should appear. Click on the Identification tab.
You will see the computers name and workgroup. The name must be Unique on the network.
The workgroup should be identical on all computers that are to be used together and share files or printers.
If Netbeui is the protocol being used you should ensure that it is the default protocol. If TCP/IP is used a Unique IP address should be entered on each PC and the Subnet Mask must be identical to enable sharing of files.
