4. Entering Notes or Comments.

Now enter a Note or Comment by selecting the following menu options Edit and then Notes/Comments. A Comments box will be displayed. As with the Accounts it is currently empty. Select the Add button to display the Comment edit box and enter a comment. An example is shown below.

You will now see the comment you entered in the main comment box. Try adding, inserting and editing a few more. You will notice that only one on the comments is displayed at a time. This ensures that lengthy comments can be read more easily. You can navigate through the list of comments by selecting the “First Note”, “Previous Note”, “Next Note” or “Last Note” buttons as appropriate. To close the comments box select the Close or OK button.

5. Entering Share prices.

There are three ways to enter share prices. Via the Edit menu Latest price update, by selecting either the Current share or the All in portfolio options, or by Editing the list of share prices. Lets start with the Latest price updates.

Select the following menu options Edit then Latest price update and then Current share. An update box will be displayed. The current date will be inserted for you, but is not displayed so you just have to enter the current price of the share in pence.

Take a look at the drop down list which contains a list of special indictors. These are used to indicate special events that may effect the price of the shares. Such as the announcement of company accounts, or an acquisition by the company. Select the OK button or press the enter key to save the price.

The share price can also be updated in a similar update box once it is entered into a portfolio.

The All in portfolio option will present you with each share in the portfolio in sequence until all of the shares in the portfolio have been updated. As we have not placed the share in the portfolio yet you can try this latter on.

The third method of entering a share price is by using the Share Price edit box. All share prices may be edited via the Share Price selection box.

Select the following menu options Edit and then Share prices. The Share Price selection box will be displayed. If you entered a price using the latest price update option above, then the price you entered will be displayed in the list box.

You can edit, add or insert prices from the selection dialog box.

6. Creating a New Portfolio.

Lets add the share file to a portfolio, by creating a new portfolio.

Select the following menu options File then New and then Portfolio. The Portfolio name change box will be displayed. Enter a name for the portfolio.

Select the OK button when finished.

You will then be presented with a “Save As” file box. This time your file must have the .PRT extension, enter "TEST.PRT" and select the OK button. The portfolio file has now been created.
